World Menopause Day – October 18th, 2024 |
As World Menopause Day approaches this Friday, we want to highlight the message from UNFPA about the importance of addressing menopause in sexual and reproductive health services. Menopause affects half the world’s population, yet remains largely unaddressed by health systems. It is a human rights issue, and there’s a growing need for comprehensive care that supports individuals during menopause. Key considerations include: Ensuring access to care for marginalized populations, including Black, Hispanic, and transgender individuals.Addressing menopause symptoms such as vaginal dryness, pain during intercourse, incontinence, and STIs.Providing holistic support for post-menopausal health, including reproductive options and cardiovascular care. Menopause is not the end of sexuality or sexual health. We must advocate for services that provide non-discriminatory, targeted support throughout this stage of life. |
